As a Sports volunteer in Ghana you will use your sporting talents to teach new skills and train children at a placement in the capital, Accra. You will assist the coaches in their training sessions and general fitness classes as well as running a few sessions individually or with another group member. All sports skills are welcome although football and rugby are the most popular.
You will develop your coaching skills by assisting with and helping to run training sessions to prepare the children for a local match which you can then help to referee. By interacting with the children on a personal level, you will develop their skills and confidence while having fun playing your chosen sports and also developing your own interpersonal skills. Ghanaians are extremely passionate about sports (especially football) and if Accra's football team, Hearts of Oak, is playing we'll take you along for you to see this passion first hand!
Ghana is a colourful, exciting and popular place to spend some time on a volunteer project. Once the British colony known as the 'Gold Coast', it is renowned for the friendliness and warmth of its people. Ghana has great beaches, wild savannah and dense rainforests. This English-speaking country provides volunteers with a wonderful introduction to Africa; it is politically-stable, safe, affordable and rewarding to visit.
