Groups will teach children at a secondary school in Chisinau, Moldova’s capital, where students start to learn English at about ten years old. There are typically thirty students in a class with a wide range of abilities and your main focus is on teaching conversational English. You will work about three hours per day in the classroom and as a native English speaker you will be much in demand both to teach and also to help students to find out about life outside of Moldova.

Your time on the project will be divided between the school and care centre where you will work helping to look after children who have been orphaned or young adults with disabilities. You will help out overstretched staff by keeping children occupied and entertained by playing games, helping with homework or even teaching them some English. Volunteering in a care centre will give you the chance to help with day-to-day practical tasks such as making sure children have been washed and fed, as well as helping them advance with their social skills through support, care and attention.

Moldova is the poorest country in Europe but is slowly growing in prosperity, especially in its capital city, Chisinau, where Projects Abroad Moldova is based. Chisinau is an enchanting old city, with tree-lined boulevards, vibrant markets, picturesque parks, and plenty of other activities and attractions for the visitor. Moldova has many attractions, especially its museums and art galleries and stunning landscape. Your group will live with host families in the Soviet-style tower blocks that fill the suburbs of Chisinau and will soon discover why Moldovans are particularly famous for their hospitality!
