Sample Itinerary
  • Who? Groups of 5 – 20 school students aged 16+
  • When? Projects have flexible dates and run all year round
  • Where? Kerala or Tamil Nadu, India.

By taking part on our Teaching and Community project in India, groups will have the opportunity to work in a school and care centre or orphanage offering your time, support and skills to a large number of children. Based in Southern India in either Tamil Nadu or the neighbouring state of Kerala, you will spend about 4 hours a day preparing, assisting and giving English lessons and playing a vital role in improving the spoken skills, and therefore increase the future options open to the children and teachers in the schools where you will work.

The remainder of your work day will be in a nearby orphanage or care centre for orphans, children in care or children with disabilities aged from 2 – 18. Your group will help with their homework or organising games and if you have any specific skills such as art, crafts, sports or even gardening, there is plenty of scope for leading other activities. Interaction, friendship and support are the most important things you will need to be able to offer the children you will work with.

Tamil Nadu is an enchanting tropical state full of colourful temples, scenic national parks, wildlife reserves, relaxing mountain resorts, and deserted pristine beaches. Kerala, India’s cleanest state is an established tourist destination that retains a sense of peace, offering long sandy beaches and mountain terrain that is ideal for trekking. To live in India is to participate in a lifestyle that is unlike anything you’ll experience in the West. Everything is colourful and nothing is ever predictable. Volunteering in India will immerse you in a land of beauty, spirituality and adventure.
