Peru Inca Project
Sample Itinerary- Who?Groups of 3 -10 students aged 18+
- When? Projects have flexible dates and run all year round
- Where? Huyro, Peru.

Groups on our Inca project in Peru will get involved in three main areas of work; archaeology, community work and expeditions. Our main area of work is near Huyro at the site of some newly found ruins, discovered by the Director of Projects Abroad, Peru. It is believed, because of their proximity to Machu Picchu and Vilcabamba, that the site will become an important area for Inca historians.
You will work alongside Peruvian experts on archaeological excavations at the newly discovered site of Cochapata, helping to clear and preserve ancient Inca walls and terracing systems in order to understand the Inca people more thoroughly. Your group will help map the ruins and clear a section of an original Inca road as well as exploring ruins that are well off the beaten track. You will get involved in community work in the form of painting a classroom at a local school, organising educational materials for the local teachers or arranging sports with the local children.
Peru, which is five times the size of the UK, was shaped by the Incas and the Spanish. It is the perfect place to immerse yourself in South American life while you're volunteering abroad. Our unique Inca project is based in Huyro, about three hours from Urubamba, where Projects Abroad Peru is based. Your group will live in a community house with Projects Abroad staff where we are aiming to become self sufficient in the future. You will be expected to help out with activities like looking after crops, harvesting tomatoes, feeding the chickens and ducks, helping to maintain the out-buildings and taking turns with the washing up after dinner or lunch!
