Volunteering on a Medicine project in Sri Lanka will be an eye-opening experience for your group - conditions and facilities will be much more basic than you are used to. You will gain a great deal of valuable work experience in a variety of departments and have the chance to get much more involved in the procedures than would be possible in a hospital at home.

Your group will work on a rotation system, giving you all the chance to work in a variety of departments. Although we can do our best to tailor placements to cover those departments your group is most interested in, the most common choices are General Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Maternity, ENT and Paediatrics. It is also possible to spend a few days working in the mortuary, Neurology, Rheumatology, chest clinic and traditional Ayurvedic clinic. This will give you a well-rounded understanding of medicine and healthcare in Sri Lanka and in the developing world in general.

Sri Lanka's population is multi-religious and multi-ethnic; its cultural heritage is equally as rich and diverse. Sri Lanka is teeming with varied and exotic wildlife species and with national parks, wetlands, rainforest reserves and stunning beaches; her landscape couldn’t be more diverse. The food in Sri Lanka is a real pleasure and wherever you go, you will find the Sri Lankan people are always extremely friendly.
