South Africa Animal Care

  • When?Projects have flexible dates and run all year round
  • Where?Cape Town, South Africa.

Our Animal Care project offers groups a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in working with animals whilst learning about the way that animal rescue centres work in South Africa. You will shadow the full time animal carers and also get involved with hands-on work like feeding, exercising and rehabilitating the animals under your care.

Gap Year volunteer work with Animals in South Africa

Your group will mainly be working domestic animals and you'll be involved with preparing food, cleaning out cages, exercising the animals and grooming and caring for neglected and abused animals. The love and attention that you give to the animals can really improve their quality of life as well as helping the overstretched staff members. As with any volunteer placement, you get back what you put in; showing initiative and a willingness to get involved will result in your experience being very rewarding.

Your work placement and host family will be based in the bustling cosmopolitan city of Cape Town, close to the southern tip of the African continent. By living and working in these mixed-race communities you'll start to understand the complexities of South Africa's past and present. Five times the size of Great Britain, South Africa has a diversity of lifestyles and environments and is a thriving and lively destination in which to spend time volunteering abroad.

This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
