Volunteer as a group on a Building Project overseas

Building Volunteers

Basic infrastructure forms the basis of many developing communities, whether it’s schools to teach children, community centres to bring local people together or community vegetable gardens to encourage healthy and sustainable living. The growth and prosperity of certain areas can be hindered by a lack of these essential pieces of infrastructure, this is what makes a group Building project so vital. The foundation that your group lays will pave the way for the local community to continue with your efforts after you leave.

What you will be doing

A group of any size is sure to really make an impact in a short amount of time, our job is to find the right placement and location for you. Most of our Building projects are focused around constructing new classrooms and new schools to provide local children with a safe environment to learn in for many years to come. Other projects may be focused around rebuilding homes for families that have been destroyed by hurricanes and earthquakes, or even helping to build community initiatives such as vegetable gardens, community centres or children’s play areas.

Your group will work alongside local builders who will provide you with all the necessary materials and training needed to complete the project. Your group may be involved with all aspects of building a structure, such as digging foundations, laying bricks, constructing a roof, installing windows and doors, plastering and decorating, or even fabricating shelves and desks. Whatever you choose to do, your group’s hard work will leave a lasting legacy in the form of a structure that will benefit the community for decades to come.

Combining projects

A lot of groups typically want to have a break from the heavy lifting, and so will often combine their Building project with a Care or Teaching project. This could be spending one week in a school and one week constructing, or even splitting each day in two so that the group can make the most of the cool morning sun for their building work. This way, the children in the local community will not only benefit from the classroom that you have helped to build, but they will also get to meet and learn from you while you are there. However, if you wish to combine your building work with other projects, such as Sports or Conservation, then this can be arranged as well. There are lots of options available so it is always advised to speak to one of our team about what would best suit you. You can call us on 01903 708316 or email us at groups@projects-abroad.co.uk and we can put together a provisional itinerary for you.
