Volunteer as a group on a Community project overseas

Community work is the most popular option for the school and university groups that we send overseas. A large or small group can really make an impact working in a community which often is lacking many resources. The contribution you can make depends on your interests and expertise. It might be as simple as repainting or building an extra classroom for a school. You will be provided with the materials and guidance necessary to ensure you can finish a project that will be beneficial to the community and something that you can be proud of.

What you will be doing

The choices are endless and the needs are numerous. Our job is to pair you with a placement that will gain maximum benefit from your group’s assistance, whether you’re building a badminton court in a local school or clearing a piece of wasteland and constructing a playground. You could be repainting the community hall or learning how to plaster the walls of an orphanage. We have had volunteers building toilet blocks and painting cartoon characters in the children’s ward of a small hospital. If you and your group have energy and enthusiasm you will really be able to make a difference.

Combining projects

The Community Projects are often combined with other different programmes by groups. You could join a community project along with a teaching or care project or work on it alongside a sports project. There are endless combinations of projects that you could fit onto your itinerary. You could spend the first week of your project doing community work before joining a conservation project in the second week or you could do community work in the morning before taking language lessons in the afternoons. We will organise the schedule to tie in with your plans. If you want to combine projects get in touch and find out what is practical for your group to do. You can call us on 01903 708316 or email us at groups@projects-abroad.co.uk and we can put together a provisional itinerary for you.
