Our Care and Conservation trip in Costa Rica is perfect for groups wanting to work with children and spend time on a Conservation project whilst living in a gorgeous country. You will spend the first part of your placement working at one of our Care projects in Heredia / Barra Honda, helping out by playing games with the children and giving them attention they would otherwise not receive. There is also the opportunity to provide some basic English lessons if you'd like to take part in classes. Living in Heredia / Barra Honda provides a great opportunity to speak Spanish with local people if you’re interested in improving or picking up some language skills.
The second part of your placement will be in Barra Honda National Park where the Projects Abroad Conservation volunteers work. You will be given an extensive tour of the area where you'll be working and then given tasks to accomplish by the time you leave. You may prepare environmental education materials for local children living around the park, paint buildings and maintain and restore trails, paths, and signs.
Costa Rica, in the heart of Latin America, is a country of contrasts and a varied mix of landscapes and cultures. Its fine range of attractions includes volcanoes, tropical rainforests, magnificent waterfalls and beautiful sandy beaches. You will live with a local host family on the first part of your placement in Heredia / Barra Honda, a friendly small town, full of colourful, colonial-style, clay-built houses. The second part of your placement will be spent in one of the national parks where our Conservation placement is based. Costa Rica is one of the most stable and well developed countries in Central America, creating a perfect mix for volunteers who want to experience Latin America.
