This placement is fantastic for a group who would like the amazing opportunity to observe the medical profession first hand in a developing Latin American country. Your group will be based in Centros de Salud in Cochabamba.

As a volunteer group on the Medicine project you will all have the opportunity to observe the doctors as they treat patients at various health centres and hospitals. During the afternoons the group will be provided with some Spanish lessons and medical workshops during the placement. Whether you are dealing with minor emergencies, dressing wounds or shadowing experienced doctors, your group is guaranteed to learn a great deal.

As a group you will be involved in a variety of tasks, including dental outreach work at a school, and will also travel to a remote village to help treat children and the elderly, as the locals have no nearby hospital to go to. This will involve checking vital signs like pulse rates, blood pressures and temperature. This opportunity to get involved with worthwhile outreach work in rural communities and schools shouldn’t be missed!

Your group can stay in a hostel, hotel or live with local host families, allowing your group to fully immerse themselves in Bolivian culture. Cochabamba is the fourth largest city in Bolivia and has a distinct liveliness owed to its population of roughly 600,000 people who keep the city full of life.

On the weekend trips your group can travel to Lake Titicaca, visit the Tiwanaku ruins and take a trip to Sun Island. Bolivia has so much history and natural beauty for your group to explore.

This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
