- Who?Groups of at least 5
- When? Projects have flexible dates and run all year round
- Where? Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
Your group will be working in one of Ulaanbaatar's leading hospitals under expert supervision. On arrival in Ulaanbaatar an introductory session will cover basic professional skills as well as Mongolian attitudes and ideas.
The focus of the practical work will be at the Central University Hospital of Mongolia, the largest hospital in the country. Your placement will give you a chance to experience a number of different departments and you have the unique opportunity to shadow doctors throughout the work day. You'll leave after experiencing medicine in the most remote city on earth and gaining valuable insight into rural community issues.
Our other placements include family clinics, smaller general hospitals providing mid-level care and large specialised hospitals which provide a high level of care including surgery. Our volunteers also conduct outreach work in which they take food to local families, blankets to care centres, and help run soup kitchens. Groups of professional medical volunteers are also welcome on the project though you would have to register for a licence. This would include providing teaching to those working in the various clinics and hospitals.
Projects Abroad Mongolia is based right in the centre of Ulaanbaatar, with the majority of our host families and projects being concentrated around the centre of the city. Ulaanbaatar is an unusual kind of capital city with bars and restaurants but there's a lot of tradition, history and culture too. It's also easy to get a quick fix of the country life while you're based in Ulaanbaatar. The capital is flanked by the 'four holy peaks', with forests and grasslands full of animal and bird life.
This placement is fully researched, safety audited and risk assessed in accordance with the British Standard BS8848 for the Adventure Travel Sector.
