Costa Rica Conservation Project strives for Ecological Blue Flag award
The Costa Rica Conservation Project is working with three schools near the Barra Honda National Park in order to gain the Ecological Blue Flag Award. Projects Abroad is assisting in education, training and the building of ecological strategies that will aid the social development of these three communities in an innovative and sustainable way.
In December the initial idea was to work in just one school over two months, before working in the next for another two months. This plan was then changed to working in a different school each week, which allows all three to make progress simultaneously.
So far, material has been bought to complete bio-gardens, recycling separation centres, recycling containers and a butterfly/hummingbird garden for each school, plus educational resources to run environmental awareness projects.
Volunteers and staff will be working on these projects for the remainder of the year.
